Apex Engineering Group Inc is seeking a Civil Design Specialist to join our Transportation Group in St. Cloud, MN.

The primary role involves being an integral member of project teams focused on highway and urban roadway initiatives, guiding projects from initial planning through to design and construction phases.

The Civil Design Specialist will be expected to contribute both independently and collaboratively to the creation and refinement of project plans and specifications while engaging with team members.

This position typically reports to a Project Manager or Senior Engineer, with opportunities to lead certain projects as Project Manager based on experience.

Additional responsibilities may encompass acting as the project engineer or representative in the field during construction activities.

Key Responsibilities:
Deliver professional civil engineering services to clients, including: planning, design, specifications, reports, construction oversight, and project management.
Oversee and delegate project tasks to CADD Technicians, Graduate Engineers, and Field Technicians.

Maintain regular and effective communication with supervisors and project managers, providing updates and progress reports throughout all project phases.

Participate in company, project, and client meetings consistently.
This role will involve preparing proposals and engaging in interviews to secure work for the firm. As experience grows, responsibilities for business development will expand under the mentorship of senior staff.

There is potential for advancement to a more significant role as a Project Manager and Client Manager, which includes oversight of project budgets and financial performance.

Strong communication skills are essential for public interactions, including public involvement meetings and construction notifications.

This position requires the initiative to think independently and make sound judgments.

Be prepared to understand and fulfill the role of project engineer and the owner's on-site representative during construction.

Continuously learn and effectively utilize Computer Aided Design and Drafting software for plan documentation.
Adhere to company and client CADD procedures and safety policies.
Perform all responsibilities with diligence, legality, and ethical standards, paying close attention to detail.
Engage in professional organizations and community leadership initiatives.
Travel and overnight stays may be necessary; expect to work overtime, particularly during peak construction periods.
Other duties may be assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering is required.
ND Professional Engineers License is preferred or the ability to obtain licensure in ND within 6-12 months.
5 or more years of experience in highway/roadway design is preferred.
Familiarity with NDDOT design and project development processes is advantageous.
Proficiency in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation Connect is highly desirable; experience with corridor modeling and design software is a plus.
Experience with municipal/urban projects involving underground utilities is beneficial.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Detail-oriented, self-motivated individuals with strong interpersonal and organizational skills are preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) is required.
A valid driver's license is necessary or the ability to obtain one.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate a computer in standard ergonomic office conditions.
Willingness to work outdoors during construction seasons.

May require extended periods of standing and walking for tasks related to construction observation and surveying.

Ability to lift objects or containers weighing up to 50 lbs.
Must adhere to scheduled work hours.
