Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Underwriting Consultant to enhance our Inland Marine division. This position can be based remotely within the Mountain or Pacific Time Zone or in our Denver office. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing risks associated with new and renewal business for intricate accounts, with a strong emphasis on new business development and management of significant accounts. You will be instrumental in formulating strategic initiatives aimed at fostering growth and profitability within your designated territory, while also nurturing relationships with producers and guiding junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identifying and maximizing opportunities for profitable new and renewal business through effective relationship management, in-depth product knowledge, and advanced underwriting capabilities.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of assigned products, implementing underwriting strategies, and ensuring adherence to compliance standards.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with producers to achieve shared growth and profitability objectives, while pinpointing coverage gaps and collaborating with other departments to enhance account service.
  • Conducting travel to key producers/accounts, analyzing market trends, and executing strategies to effectively position the business.
  • Collecting competitor insights and providing recommendations to support territorial rate evaluations.
  • Staying informed on industry trends and marketplace dynamics to maintain professional expertise.
  • Providing mentorship and coaching to less experienced underwriters.
Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting practices, pricing structures, and coverage considerations.
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and underwriting software.
  • Demonstrated experience in specialty lines underwriting.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience in underwriting.
  • Preferred professional insurance designation.
