Overview of the Loan Underwriting Specialist Role

M2 Lending Solutions is seeking a seasoned DE-certified Loan Underwriting Specialist with a strong track record to enhance our operations. Key Responsibilities of the Loan Underwriting Specialist:

  • Evaluate loans in accordance with all investor, governmental, and agency standards.
  • Examine loan data in Encompass and conduct a thorough review of the Automated Underwriting System (AUS) results.
  • Assess and compute income, including the evaluation of tax documents to determine complex income for self-employed applicants.
  • Perform all underwriting tasks in compliance with various program specifications, company protocols, and applicable legal and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure documentation, reports, and files are complete and accurate.
  • Verify that all conditions have been satisfactorily fulfilled prior to closing.
  • Utilize sound judgment to make quality decisions with minimal eligibility defects.
  • Adhere to underwriting timelines to guarantee all loan deadlines are met.
  • Stay updated on underwriting policies and requirements, investor guidelines, and governmental regulations, communicating changes and their potential impacts on customer service and marketable loans to sales and operations teams.
  • Propose alternative solutions based on guidelines and experience.
  • Provide counter approvals as necessary.
  • Collaborate with leadership to implement necessary process adjustments in response to guideline modifications.

Qualifications for the Loan Underwriting Specialist:

  • Hybrid work option available after an initial in-person period.
  • Must possess an FHA DE Chums number.
  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in underwriting FHA and conforming loans.
  • At least 2 years' experience with non-agency jumbo programs, guidelines, and underwriting standards.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience utilizing Encompass.
  • Proficient in the guidelines and requirements of FHA, FNMA, and FHLMC programs.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • High level of ownership and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Critical thinker with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, particularly with varying loan volumes.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
