Position Overview

As a key member of our Electric Grid Infrastructure Services division, you will play a vital role in the design and implementation of SCADA systems tailored to meet operational demands and innovative trends such as Smart Grid technology, Substation Automation, Battery Energy Storage, and Microgrid control systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating on dynamic client projects to architect, engineer, and develop SCADA and communication frameworks.
  • Creating detailed communication block diagrams, panel layouts, bill of materials, and SCADA schematics for both AC and DC systems.
  • Reviewing and providing design input on Protection & Control (P&C) drawings to ensure alignment with SCADA system specifications.
  • Compiling comprehensive points lists for data exchange between Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), and master station interfaces.
  • Configuring Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) such as SEL RTAC, Novatech OrionLX, and GE-D20.
  • Setting up programmable automation controllers (PACs) like SEL-2440/2411.
  • Developing Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications using tools such as SEL Diagram Builder and Wonderware.
  • Coordinating with relay settings engineers to establish and review communication port configurations for protection relays and meters.
  • Designing network configurations for devices including switches, routers, and firewalls from manufacturers like Cisco and Siemens.
  • Troubleshooting SCADA network and communication systems (DNP, Modbus, SEL Protocol, IEC 61850, TCP/IP, UDP) both remotely and on-site as necessary.
  • Producing documentation for SCADA systems and network projects.
  • Developing automation tools to enhance project efficiency using programming languages such as Python.
  • Testing and staging integrated system designs to ensure interoperability and performance that aligns with predictive models in our laboratory.
  • Upholding compliance with NERC standards for Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP).
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional growth.
  • Opportunities for travel to client and vendor locations may arise as needed.

This position supports a hybrid work model, allowing for three days in the office and two days of remote work. Depending on your location, a generous relocation package may be available.

Required Qualifications

Essential qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, or Computer Systems Engineering.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in the design, configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting of substation SCADA and communication systems.
  • Familiarity with SEL, Novatech, and GE RTUs and associated software.
  • Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN devices and network topology.
  • Understanding of DNP, Modbus, SEL, and IEC protocols (both serial and IP-based).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronic, Telecommunications, or Computer Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with communication troubleshooting tools (e.g., ASE Test Set, Wireshark).
  • Knowledge of protective relay settings (SEL, GE, ABB).
  • Experience in radio communications.
  • Credentials in network design and applied knowledge of IP/MPLS.
  • Proficiency in MS Project and Visio.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Familiarity with NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and Cyber-Security.
  • CISSP certification.
