CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The role of Chief Executive Officer at the Black Child Development Institute of Wisconsin presents a unique opportunity to significantly influence the lives of children and families in Southeast Wisconsin.

This is a full-time, salaried position that entails the formulation and implementation of the organization's strategic vision, managing all initiatives, collaborations, and regulations. The CEO will also oversee daily operations, propel the mission and vision of the organization, provide leadership to staff, and maintain accountability to the Board of Directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides visionary leadership to promote the mission of BCDI-Wisconsin.
  • Designs and executes strategic plans, policies, and programs to meet organizational objectives.
  • Ensures financial health through effective budgeting, grant writing, fundraising, and financial oversight.
  • Manages all facets of organizational operations, including financial oversight, fundraising, human resources, and program development.
  • Supervises daily operations, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations, along with relevant administrative guidelines.
  • Builds and sustains strong partnerships with community stakeholders, donors, and partners, including key organizations.
  • Guides and supports a committed team of staff, fostering professional growth and a positive workplace culture.
  • Acts as the organization's representative in public engagements, advocacy initiatives, and community collaborations to enhance awareness and support for BCDI-Wisconsin's mission.
  • Advocates for the interests of children and families in the community, promoting awareness and support for the organization's focus areas and essential outcomes.

Strategic Oversight

Directs and implements BCDI-Wisconsin's strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Effectively executes annual program plans within allocated resources while maintaining regular communication with the Board.

Financial Oversight and Fundraising

Prepares and manages the annual budget, adhering to established financial management protocols. Compiles monthly financial reports and cash flow forecasts using financial software for presentation to the Board. Conducts financial audits and annual reviews. Identifies, prepares, submits, and oversees grant applications to community partners and relevant funding sources. Collaborates closely with partners on contract management and develops an annual fundraising strategy.

Organizational Growth

Keeps the Board informed of organizational progress and fundraising efforts through regular updates. Reports on significant activities and any budgetary concerns. Explores opportunities for program expansion.

Community Engagement

Monitors organizational progress and provides reports on key metrics for external communication. Represents BCDI-Wisconsin on boards and committees aligned with organizational goals. Leads public relations and marketing initiatives in coordination with national strategies, including fundraising and partnership opportunities. Seeks collaborations with community resources and prepares presentations for networking and funding opportunities.

Leadership and Supervision

Provides leadership and oversight for the BCDI office, staff, and volunteers. Implements personnel policies, recruits, hires, and oversees the training of team members. Ensures a safe and engaging work environment that promotes employee development and retention.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in social work, education, child development, public health, or a related field. An Associate's degree with relevant experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership roles within community organizations.
  • Strong leadership and organizational capabilities, with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making in dynamic settings.
  • Familiarity with fundraising, financial management, budgeting, and grant writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and various social media platforms.
  • Experience with database software and website content management is a plus.
  • Must possess a personal vehicle with valid insurance and pass background checks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a professional office setting and involves community engagement. All employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. Local travel may be required.
