Department Overview

The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS) at Georgia Tech is dedicated to interdisciplinary research, focusing on the development of innovative materials and devices that address complex societal challenges.

Position Summary

This role serves as a key advisor within an academic or business unit, specializing in the administration of sponsored research programs in alignment with institutional financial policies. Responsibilities include planning, managing, and executing financial support related to budgeting, accounting, reporting, and grant management. The position involves setting employee objectives, evaluating performance, providing constructive feedback, and making compensation recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Sponsored Research Pre-Award Management:
Oversee and coordinate pre-award processes, including proposal development, budget formulation, and submission procedures.

2. Post-Award Administration:
Act as a liaison for faculty, ensuring compliance and monitoring of expenditures while generating necessary reports.

3. Financial Operations:
Manage accounting functions related to sponsored research, including budget revisions, financial reporting, and forecasting.

4. Advisory Role:
Provide guidance to business operations regarding sponsored research initiatives and project management.

5. Staff Oversight:
Direct and supervise grants administration and accounting personnel involved in sponsored research support.

6. Collaboration:
Engage with the Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants & Contracts Accounting to address research grant and contract matters.

7. Additional Duties:
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
Three to five years of relevant professional experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Certifications:
Preferred certifications include Certified Research Administrator, Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator, or Certified Financial Research Administrator. Supervisory experience is also preferred.

Skills and Abilities

This position demands a strong understanding of financial and accounting principles as they apply to sponsored research. Proficiency in proposal development and familiarity with regulatory requirements are essential. The candidate should possess excellent planning, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills.
