Associate Director, Research Projects

Emory University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as Associate Director, Research Projects. This key position will play a critical role in leading a research study funded by the National Institutes of Health, with a focus on promoting a more diverse future STEM and biomedical research workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Reports to a principal investigator of sponsored projects and exercises independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the research core.
- Serves as a consultant and provides technical expertise in scientific theory, research methods, and data analysis for various research projects.
- Leads the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines, and procedures to collect required data.
- Coordinates various aspects of the study, including research and intervention activities with the team.
- Develops research protocols, reviews and edits text for studies, and conducts extensive literature searches.
- Provides direction to consultants and team members, coordinates special meetings, and develops presentations to represent Emory at national meetings.
- Collaborates on or authors reports and papers, and performs related responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, Psychology, or a related discipline, and five or more years of research/professional experience, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Effective writing, analytic, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Experience managing and executing multiple projects, working with senior health policy makers and executives, and conducting focus groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with communities and partner organizations, and engaging effectively with K-12 students, parents, teachers, and mentors.
- Commitment to reducing disparities and inequities in STEM education and career opportunities.
- Ability to convey enthusiasm and excitement about program opportunities to potential students, parents, teachers, and mentors.
- Experience collecting and analyzing quantitative and/or qualitative data, and regulatory experience, including working with IRB for study approvals.
- Prior experience in community-engaged programs or other similar types of research, and knowledge of REDCap or other database skills.
Additional Job Details
- Serves as a consultant and trainer of other study staff, collaborators, mentors, interns, and students.
- Organizes teaching of informal science curriculum, presents parts of curriculum to students, and leads small group discussions.
- Serves as Point of Contact for undergraduate and graduate STEM mentors, and other team members.
- Coordinates research and intervention activities with the team, and develops protocols, logistics, and plans for study implementation.
- Communicates and collaborates with community partners, including schools, K-12 teachers and administrators, community organizations, advocacy groups, governmental agencies, and academic institutions.
