Department Overview

The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS) is an interdisciplinary hub at Georgia Tech, focusing on the integration of innovative materials and devices to tackle significant societal challenges.

Position Summary

This role serves as the primary expert and advisor within an academic or business unit concerning the administration of sponsored research programs, ensuring compliance with institutional financial policies. Responsibilities include planning, managing, and executing financial support activities related to budgeting, accounting, reporting, and grant administration. The position involves setting employee objectives, evaluating performance, providing constructive feedback, and making compensation recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Pre-Award Management:
Oversee and execute pre-award processes, including proposal development, budget formulation, and submission protocols.

2. Post-Award Oversight:
Act as a liaison for faculty, monitoring financial compliance and generating necessary reports.

3. Financial Operations:
Manage accounting operations related to sponsored research, including budget adjustments and financial forecasting.

4. Advisory Role:
Provide guidance to business operations regarding sponsored research initiatives and project management.

5. Staff Management:
Direct and oversee the activities of grants administration and accounting personnel involved in sponsored research support.

6. Collaboration:
Engage with the Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants & Contracts Accounting on issues related to grants and contracts.

7. Additional Duties:
Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:
A minimum of three to five years of relevant experience in a similar role.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Research Administrator or related credentials, along with supervisory experience, is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies

This position requires a solid understanding of financial principles and practices within a sponsored research context. Proficiency in proposal development and regulatory compliance is essential, as well as familiarity with office software and specialized grant administration applications. Key skills include attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication.
