Department Overview
The Institute for Matter and Systems (IMS) at Georgia Tech is dedicated to interdisciplinary research focused on innovative materials and devices, addressing complex challenges through collaborative efforts.
This role serves as the primary advisor and subject matter expert in sponsored research program administration, ensuring compliance with institutional financial policies. Responsibilities include managing financial operations related to budgeting, accounting, reporting, and grant administration.
Key Responsibilities- Pre-Award Management: Oversee and coordinate pre-award activities, including proposal development, budget preparation, and submission processes.
- Post-Award Oversight: Act as a liaison for faculty, monitoring expenditures, ensuring compliance, and generating necessary reports.
- Financial Operations: Manage accounting operations related to sponsored research, including budget updates and financial forecasting.
- Advisory Role: Provide guidance on sponsored research plans and proposals to the school's business operations management.
- Staff Management: Direct and oversee the activities of grants administration staff responsible for supporting sponsored research.
- Collaboration: Liaise with the Office of Sponsored Programs and Grants & Contracts Accounting regarding research grants and contracts.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: A minimum of three to five years of relevant experience in sponsored research administration.
Preferred QualificationsCertification as a Research Administrator or similar credentials, along with supervisory experience, is highly desirable.
Skills and AbilitiesThis position requires a strong understanding of financial principles as they apply to sponsored research, proficiency in proposal development, and familiarity with regulatory requirements. Essential skills include attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication.
