Lead Internal Audit Specialist

Position Overview:
An individual in this role is tasked with executing audits across various divisions within Montgomery County. The work encompasses a range of audits including financial, compliance, efficiency, and performance assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and oversee audits of County departments and functions.
- Perform initial evaluations in assigned departments to identify activities and formulate audit requirements.
- Develop and propose a preliminary audit work plan, detailing scope, methodologies, and timelines as per directives from superiors.
- Execute audits by reviewing documentation and interviewing relevant personnel to gather necessary information.
- Prepare comprehensive draft reports and schedules of audit findings and recommendations, including management responses, and finalize audit work papers in both electronic and physical formats as needed.
- Analyze and assess compliance with legal, contractual, and financial standards, focusing on the efficiency and effectiveness of County department operations.
- Present findings to management to facilitate understanding and encourage the implementation of recommendations.
- Undertake additional related tasks as required.
Continuing Education Requirement:
Annual completion of 40 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits is mandatory for auditors within Montgomery County.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related business discipline from an accredited institution.
- Between 5 to 10 years of relevant auditing or professional accounting experience.
- Current or pending certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
