Position: Transmission Model Engineering Specialist (Contract)

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (2-3 days per week)

Contract Duration: 2+ years

Job Overview:

The Engineering Specialist will collaborate with model coordination personnel to collect updates on transmission models from various member organizations and adjacent entities within the Energy Management System (EMS) framework. Utilizing engineering expertise, they will assess and determine suitable updates for the model, providing detailed outlines for model managers. The specialist will also partner with model management teams to implement these updates within the EMS.

Furthermore, the engineer may support model coordination staff in collecting and updating electrical parameter data essential for the effective operation of State Estimator solutions.

Additionally, the role may involve representing the department in meetings with members and stakeholders, including industry conferences. This could also entail developing training materials for both member and internal staff regarding processes and procedures related to model updates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure and uphold the accuracy of model data within the EMS.
  • Facilitate model updates to accommodate new transmission and generation enhancements as part of Regional Transmission Enhancement (RTEP) initiatives and other updates from members, operations, planning, and market teams.
  • Coordinate technical modeling support and updates with neighboring regional entities and RTOs to support external models and Market to Market collaboration.
  • Revise transmission model parameter data, including congestion priorities and GIS coordinates.
  • Identify connections between transmission tickets for new facility energization and model update requests.
  • Develop and maintain departmental documentation to ensure compliance with Operating Agreements, manuals, and all relevant NERC and FERC regulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Willingness to receive training in transmission modeling support areas.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to enhance customer support.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with power system components and their database models.
  • Understanding of Power System equivalencing or other model reduction methodologies.
  • Experience with Siemens Spectrum Energy Management Systems.
  • Proven knowledge and experience with real-time Energy Management System databases.
  • Expertise in real-time Energy Management System display generation software and electric power system display characteristics.
  • Experience with real-time Energy Management System transmission network analysis functions, including State Estimation, Security Analysis, and reactive transfer limit (P-V curve) analysis.
  • Working knowledge of SQL/ORACLE.
  • Familiarity with Power System Common Information Model (CIM, IEC).
