To qualify, candidates must meet the educational and experiential requirements specified below.

Basic Qualifications for Financial Auditors:
A

Educational Requirement:

A bachelor's degree (or higher) in accounting or auditing, or a related field that includes auditing courses and at least 24 semester hours in accounting.

Up to 6 hours may include business law. or B.

Combination of Education and Experience:

A minimum of 4 years of experience in accounting, or a combination of accounting experience, higher education, and training that provides professional accounting knowledge.

Candidates must also possess one of the following:
- Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses, including up to 6 hours in business law;
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor obtained through examination; or

- Completion of a degree with substantial coursework in accounting or auditing, with relevant experience demonstrating proficiency in the field.
In addition to the basic qualifications, candidates must meet the following specialized experience requirements:

Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes:
- Overseeing the internal review program, including the development and execution of an annual audit strategy;
- Organizing audits and providing professional guidance to audit teams;
- Presenting findings to officials regarding the audit program's validity and methodologies;
- Setting objectives for the audit program applicable to individual or team roles;
- Creating training materials related to the internal review program.

This specialized experience is typically associated with work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service.

Education cannot substitute for the required specialized experience for this position.
Evaluation will be based on competency in the following areas:

- Audit Fundamentals and Operations
- Human Capital Management
- Collaborative Partnerships

Time in Grade Requirement:

Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last year must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent.
