Veterinary Anesthesia Coordinator
Small Animal Clinical Sciences

The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Veterinary Anesthesia Coordinator. This position serves as the primary point of contact for scheduling small animal anesthesia and veterinary imaging services, working closely with supervising clinicians. The role requires effective communication with specialty services, staff, clinicians, and students to ensure the smooth operation of scheduled and urgent anesthetic procedures.



Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare, coordinate, and update the anesthesia and imaging service schedules on a daily basis.
  • Establish and manage procedure timings in collaboration with relevant services, including premedication, induction, recovery, and supply management. Assign cases to anesthesia nurses and provide timely updates as changes arise.
  • Maintain clear communication with all involved parties, ensuring regular updates on procedures, patient status, and available personnel.
  • Document all communications related to scheduling and patient care needs during procedures.
  • Assist with patient checklists and ensure compliance with established guidelines.
  • Adhere to infectious disease control and safety protocols when planning scheduled cases, including room selection and post-procedure disinfection.
  • Troubleshoot scheduling software and contribute to the development of an efficient scheduling system.
  • Utilize electronic scheduling systems proficiently to enter and retrieve patient-related information.
  • Engage in safety culture initiatives and participate in data collection and evaluations.
  • Maintain anesthesia records for small animal cases and imaging services.
  • Perform on-call duties as a veterinary assistant on a rotating basis, if applicable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of relevant experience in a veterinary setting or as a receptionist/scheduler in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree, along with a Veterinary Assistant certificate and six months of relevant experience in a veterinary academic or specialty hospital.

The Veterinary Medical Center operates continuously throughout the year, and occasional weekend, evening, or holiday work may be required for this position.
