The Small Animal Clinical Sciences department is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Veterinary Anesthesia Scheduler. This position serves as the main coordinator for scheduling small animal anesthesia and veterinary imaging services, working closely with supervising clinicians. The role involves collaboration with specialty services and their personnel to ensure a seamless and efficient scheduling process for both planned and urgent anesthetic procedures.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, organize, and update the anesthesia and imaging service schedules on a daily basis.
  • Coordinate procedure timings with relevant departments, including premedication, induction, recovery, and resource availability. Assign cases to anesthesia staff and provide timely updates on scheduling changes.
  • Maintain clear communication with all stakeholders, ensuring that updates regarding procedures, patient conditions, and necessary documentation are consistently available.
  • Document all communications related to scheduling and patient care requirements during procedures.
  • Assist with patient checklists and requests, ensuring compliance with established protocols and obtaining necessary approvals from overseeing services.
  • Adhere to all safety and infection control guidelines when planning scheduled cases, including room selection and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for scheduling software and contribute to the development of an efficient scheduling system.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing electronic scheduling systems and retrieving patient-related information from databases.
  • Engage in safety culture initiatives, participating in data collection and evaluation of outcomes.
  • Maintain and oversee anesthesia record systems for small animal cases.
  • Perform on-call duties as a veterinary assistant on a rotating schedule, if necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of relevant experience in a veterinary setting, either as an assistant or in a scheduling role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree, along with a Veterinary Assistant certification and six months of experience in a veterinary academic or specialty environment.

The Veterinary Medical Center operates continuously throughout the week, including weekends and holidays, and may require occasional evening shifts for this position.
