About the Organization: The NFF collaborates with communities and organizations to protect and enhance watersheds, wildlife habitats, and recreational spaces across the vast National Forest System, which spans 193 million acres. The NFF is dedicated to involving all Americans in these vital conservation efforts.

Role Summary: The Kootenai National Forest Coordinator will report directly to the Northern Rockies Program Manager and will work in close partnership with other field staff based in Montana to collaboratively strategize, develop, and execute priority projects on the Kootenai National Forest. This role necessitates effective coordination with the U.S. Forest Service, along with various federal and state agencies, community organizations, and implementation partners to achieve established objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, coordination, budget management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
  • Lead the process of advertising, negotiating, and awarding multiple contracts for services related to the implementation of fuel reduction projects.
  • Engage directly with contractors, consultants, nonprofit organizations, and agency partners to ensure effective and efficient project execution.
  • Manage contracts, invoices, and associated budgets for various projects.
  • Assist in identifying unit boundaries through painting, flagging, or developing georeferenced maps in accordance with project design features and Forest Plan requirements.
  • Support the development of silvicultural prescriptions and technical specifications for contracts.
  • Act as the NFF's primary contact for daily project management activities.
  • Coordinate community communications regarding project work, which may include newsletters, news releases, or in-person meetings/events.
  • Collaborate with NFF staff to secure funding from government sources, foundations, corporations, and individuals to support project initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing progress and funding reports for various funding sources, including federal, state, and local governments, as well as philanthropic support.
  • Work with NFF staff to effectively communicate project needs and the benefits and achievements for the community.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with partners regarding project planning, implementation, and successes.
  • Stay informed about current trends, emerging issues, policy interventions, and innovations in conservation programming to enhance the NFF's strategic effectiveness.
  • Serve as a contact point for NFF conservation activities related to the Kootenai National Forest.
  • Assist with the NFF program of work in the Northern Rockies Region, which may involve managing diverse, short-term projects.

Location: This position is designed to be remote/work-from-home, requiring reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace. Frequent travel to the Kootenai National Forest will be necessary.

Compensation: The NFF offers competitive salary and benefits, with a salary range between $56,000 and $70,200. New hires typically start at the 35th percentile of the range to ensure internal salary equity.

Application Process: Candidates must submit a cover letter and resume. Incomplete applications will not be considered. This position will remain open until filled.

The National Forest Foundation is an equal-opportunity employer and encourages a diverse pool of candidates to apply.

Qualifications:
