Position Overview:

We are in search of a Lead Senior Structural Design Engineer to spearhead our New Glenn Second Stage Tanks initiatives. This position is pivotal in driving a streamlined engineering effort focused on enhancing new space capabilities. You will lead a specialized team of engineers across various disciplines to expedite the design and development phases, while enhancing the existing New Glenn Stage 2 design and integrating innovative features.

This role is characterized by high levels of collaboration and engagement, allowing you to oversee the complete design process from conception to execution. You will also play a crucial role in program management, ensuring alignment of cost, schedule, and technical design with our strategic objectives. This position necessitates close collaboration, providing an opportunity to cultivate and sustain valuable relationships. We seek candidates who prioritize customer satisfaction and excel in relationship management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the structural design and configuration of propellant tanks, internal frameworks, and interfaces.
  • Conduct detailed design, analysis, development, and testing of primary and secondary structures exposed to cryogenic conditions.
  • Create 3D models, detailed part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents adhering to both internal and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate across business units and functional organizations to achieve project deliverables, acting as a liaison between various internal and external partners.
  • Prepare project summary presentations and memos for executive review and internal team discussions.
  • Regularly report on performance metrics related to schedule, resources, cost, and technical performance.
  • Engage in subsystem test planning, execution, data analysis, and reduction.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Offer on-site manufacturing and production support, including travel as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required.
  • Experience in program and technical leadership within an aerospace development context, with a background in the full lifecycle development of aerospace systems.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong technical communication abilities, demonstrating resourcefulness and sound judgment.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and willing to travel as needed.
  • Proficient in managing complex, minimally defined requirements while fostering trust and maintaining professional relationships.
  • Experience with launch vehicles or aircraft in areas such as:
    • Design of lightweight structures, particularly pressurized systems.
    • Fluid system interface design.
    • Material development and structural testing.
    • Design of metallic components and assemblies.
    • Load path distribution and strength assessment.
  • Strong knowledge of material selection and manufacturing techniques.
  • Proficient in structural design and analysis principles.
  • Mechanical design expertise using Creo and CATIA V5.
  • Ability to perform structural analysis through classical methods and finite element techniques.
  • Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills with a knack for building consensus among stakeholders.
  • Experience with rapid hardware development techniques.
  • Knowledge of welding and forming processes.
  • Expertise in industry-standard analysis software such as Ansys, Nastran, or LS Dyna.
  • Experience in developing manufacturing processes for production.
  • Understanding of systems engineering practices and quality control.
  • Experience in optimization and design of experiments.
  • Experience in multi-functional teams focused on material selection and manufacturing processes.
