Role Overview:

This position plays a crucial role in the development and operation of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for regular missions to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond. The first stage of this vehicle is fully reusable, and it has been engineered to support human missions from its inception.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct design, analysis, development, and testing of primary and secondary structures, including both composite and metallic components, as well as integrated structural assemblies.
  • Create detailed 3D models, part drawings, assembly documentation, and interface control documents.
  • Provide support for manufacturing and production processes related to your designs.
  • Offer technical guidance during integration phases.
  • Engage in configuration development and trade studies.
  • Implement practical approaches to hardware fabrication while considering cost implications.
  • Develop test plans, specifications, and other documentation for flight hardware development.
  • Collaborate with vertically-integrated teams responsible for materials and manufacturing processes to produce high-quality aerospace hardware.
  • Participate in planning, executing, and analyzing subsystem tests.
  • Oversee test coordination, data review, and analysis.
  • Assist in the development and procurement of new equipment and tooling.
  • Maintain and report on project schedules, budgets, and technical statuses.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive, aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Experience with recent aircraft or launch vehicle development in areas such as:
    • Structural design of metallic components and assemblies.
    • Load path distribution and strength assessment.
    • Material selection and manufacturing techniques.
    • Proficiency in mechanical design and integration using 3D CAD software.
    • Familiarity with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
    • Ability to foster trust and maintain professional relationships while promoting an inclusive culture.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee/asylee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Capability to apply structural mechanics principles and develop designs using hand calculations and finite element analysis.
  • Understanding of material and design considerations in cryogenic environments.
  • Experience with the full product lifecycle from design to production.
  • Familiarity with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or later, and Windchill 10.
  • Knowledge of design and fabrication for composite structures.
  • Experience with classical hand analysis methods and analysis software such as Nastran, ANSYS, and Abaqus.
