This position plays a crucial role in the development and operation of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed to routinely transport both personnel and cargo to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond. The first stage of this vehicle is fully reusable, and it has been engineered from the outset to support human operations.

As a member of a specialized and talented team, you will take charge of the structural design for both primary and secondary components of the space launch vehicle. This hands-on role requires complete ownership of hardware throughout the entire design process, from initial concepts to final flight readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full design lifecycle of structural subsystems, encompassing conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, development testing, and qualification.
  • Create and issue 3-D models, component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents.
  • Conduct hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) of primary and secondary aerospace structures.
  • Plan and implement development and qualification testing activities.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve an optimized design that enhances manufacturing and operational execution.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle, or automotive structures.
  • Proven track record of releasing and qualifying primary structures.
  • Hands-on experience in metallic part fabrication.
  • Strong mechanical design capabilities utilizing 3D CAD software.
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace structures analysis methods, such as Bruhn, Roarks, and Niu.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and drawing standards as per ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience in development and/or qualification testing, including test requirements, setup/configuration, predictions, and monitoring.
  • Understanding of composite and metallic manufacturing techniques.
  • Knowledge of bonded and bolted joint design, mechanics, and relevant analysis techniques.
  • Ability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and foster an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee or asylee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience with composite part fabrication.
  • Proficiency in Creo Parametric.
  • Familiarity with FEA software such as Ansys, HyperMesh/Optistruct, or Abaqus.
  • Experience with optimization and Design of Experiments (DOE) methods applied to design, analysis, and testing.

Compensation Range:

Compensation for this role varies by location, with a range of $111,690.00 to $156,366.00 for Washington applicants.
