Role Overview: This position plays a crucial role in the development and operation of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for consistent transport of both personnel and payloads to various orbits, including low-Earth orbit and beyond. The first stage of this vehicle is fully reusable, emphasizing our commitment to human-capable design from inception.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the design, analysis, development, and testing of primary and secondary structures, which encompass both composite and metallic components, as well as integrated structural assemblies.
  • Generate 3D models, detailed part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents.
  • Offer manufacturing and production support for hardware components.
  • Provide technical direction for integration processes.
  • Assist in configuration development and conduct trade studies.
  • Implement practical approaches to hardware fabrication while considering cost implications.
  • Develop test plans, specifications, and documentation necessary for flight hardware development.
  • Collaborate with vertically-integrated teams responsible for materials and manufacturing processes to create top-tier aerospace hardware.
  • Participate in planning, executing, and analyzing subsystem tests.
  • Coordinate and conduct tests, reviewing test data for accuracy and reliability.
  • Engage in the acquisition and development of new equipment and tooling.
  • Maintain and report on project schedules, budgets, and technical statuses.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive, aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Experience with recently developed aircraft or launch vehicles in areas such as:
    • Structural design of metallic components and assemblies.
    • Assessment of vehicle load path distribution and initial strength sizing.
    • Material selection and manufacturing techniques.
    • Proficient mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software.
    • Familiarity with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
    • Ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships while fostering an inclusive culture.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee/asylee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Capability to apply structural mechanics principles rapidly and develop designs through hand calculations and finite element analysis.
  • Understanding of material and design considerations in cryogenic environments.
  • Experience with the complete product lifecycle from design to production.
  • Familiarity with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or later, and Windchill 10.
  • Knowledge of design and fabrication considerations for composite structures.
  • Familiarity with classical hand analysis methods.
  • Experience with analysis software such as Nastran, ANSYS, and others.
