Position Overview

The Senior Vice President of AI Strategy will lead Tokio Marine HCC's initiatives in artificial intelligence, driving the formulation and implementation of AI strategies across the organization. This essential position requires a candidate who embodies strategic foresight and possesses a strong foundation in AI and machine learning technologies, coupled with outstanding leadership and collaborative abilities. The individual will be crucial in shaping our AI direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic AI Leadership: Develop and implement a holistic AI strategic framework that aligns with the company's broader goals. Oversee AI project rollouts to guarantee timely, budget-conscious, and high-quality outcomes.
  • Governance and Oversight: Serve as a vital member of the governance committee, managing policy formulation, vendor selection, use case assessments, and project endorsements, while ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Technological Infrastructure Support: Collaborate closely with the Digital Insurance Technology team and various business units to create a robust, scalable, and secure technological framework that accelerates AI integration.
  • Fostering Knowledge and Adoption: Promote a culture of learning, innovation, and AI technology integration within the organization. Initiate and manage educational and training initiatives to boost AI literacy across all departments.
  • Departmental Support: Provide expertise and assistance to teams interested in launching AI projects, helping identify AI opportunities and developing project proposals and execution strategies.
  • Program Management Oversight: Oversee AI program management, ensuring strategic alignment and effective execution of AI initiatives.
  • Cross-Organizational Collaboration: Partner with leaders throughout the organization to promote education and the adoption of AI tools.
  • Process Improvement: Implement enhancements to workflows while introducing new tools to foster efficiency and productivity gains.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in AI, continuously assessing and recommending new strategies to maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Performance Metrics Development: Establish KPIs/OKRs for Generative AI and continuously evaluate and refine to ensure success.
Required Competencies

Strategic Planning: Lead the development of long-term plans for the designated area of the organization, anticipating shifts in demand and technology to adjust strategies accordingly.

Effective Communication: Convey direction or results related to the area of responsibility to all levels, both internally and externally.

Financial Oversight: Develop and manage budgets for multiple business units or corporate departments, setting objectives, policies, and procedures for the area of responsibility.

Business Governance: Ensure compliance with corporate policies and foster an environment that encourages the development and implementation of effective business controls.

Leadership: While this role may initially be an individual contributor position, there is potential for future team management.

Qualifications

Education: Advanced Degree: Master's Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with AI/ML model lifecycle management, including knowledge of AI/ML architecture, model risk, data management, and responsible AI practices.

Additional Experience:
  • At least 3 years of direct experience with AI/ML model lifecycle management or operations.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading AI initiatives.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (NIST AI).
  • Experience with security best practices for generative AI development and deployments.
  • Ability to identify and communicate key risks associated with AI implementations.
  • Experience in risk analysis and reporting to executives.
  • Extensive knowledge of AI and machine learning technologies.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire innovation within cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in strategic planning, project management, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Prior experience in the insurance sector is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries is beneficial.
Working Conditions
