Key Responsibilities:


Core Functions:
Clinical Care

Primary Duties:

Facilitates the assessment process for patients, which includes but is not limited to: medical checklist, physical health evaluations, nursing screenings, medication reconciliation, depression assessments, and vital signs as necessary.

Administers medications while adhering to the Seven Rights of medication administration.

Educates patients and their families about disease processes and medication usage, including potential side effects.

Monitors patients for adverse reactions to medications and communicates findings to the physician.

Provides direct patient care, evaluates treatment outcomes, collaborates with specialists as needed, and modifies nursing care plans to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Accurately categorizes triage levels.

Maintains comprehensive nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, pain management, and assessments of changes.

Identifies and addresses the psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.

Effectively communicates with physicians regarding patients' physical and mental health status.

Conducts medical and psychiatric screenings as required.

Completes medical checklists, vital signs, and other necessary documentation.

Performs ancillary testing and tasks as directed by the attending physician or coordinates scheduling for tests with medical facilities.

Administers injections and treatments, and conducts routine laboratory tests.

Supervises nursing activities at the site, ensuring compliance with established standards and procedures.

Assists patients with access to assistance programs and referrals, maintaining an updated referral file.

Responds to requests for medication refills.

Assists in fulfilling reporting requirements for grants.

Reviews patient charts for treatment adherence.

Follows up on missed treatments and documents accordingly.

Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement interdisciplinary treatment plans.

Monitors laboratory results and promptly reports any abnormal findings to the physician.

Provides emergency care as necessary, following established health policies and procedures.

Demonstrates the ability to recognize crisis situations and effectively de-escalate them.

Participates in staff meetings as required.

Enters data into the computer system to maintain accurate office and patient records.

Educates the community and patients on health issues to enhance health literacy.

May conduct infection control measures when necessary.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Meets productivity standards set by AltaPointe Health.

Demonstrates nursing competencies effectively.

Adheres to the professional code of ethics.

Supervision and Consultation:
Seeks clinical supervision and consultation as needed.

Welcomes and implements suggestions for improvement.

Actively works to enhance clinical skills.

Clinical Record Keeping:
Documents patient information in a timely manner in accordance with health policies.

Records information clearly and concisely, including patient problems, treatment goals, and services rendered.

Ensures that all documentation is completed accurately and updated as necessary.

Maintains legible records.

Exhibits courteous and respectful behavior towards patients, visitors, and colleagues.

Treats patients with compassion and dignity.

Respects patient privacy and confidentiality.

Maintains a pleasant and cooperative demeanor with others.

Assists patients and visitors as required.

Administrative Duties:
Actively participates in performance improvement initiatives.

Engages in health committees as required.

Completes assigned tasks promptly.

Accesses community resources based on patient needs.

Follows established health policies and procedures.

Maintains current state licensure and fulfills renewal requirements, including continuing education and in-service training.

Physical Requirements:
Frequent standing while retrieving files and distributing medications.

Regular sitting for documentation purposes, with potential extended periods.

Occasional squatting or bending to stock supplies and access materials.

Fine motor skills required for writing and handling paperwork.

Ability to push or pull light objects as needed.

Lifting of light items may be required.

Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Alabama is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.

Knowledge in pediatric nursing and related specialties must be acquired within six months of employment.

Understanding of general and psychiatric nursing care principles.

Familiarity with psychiatric disorders in pediatric populations.

Demonstration of safe medication administration practices.

Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan, with skills to provide age-appropriate care.

Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to pediatric psychiatric care.

Current knowledge of medications and their administration based on patient age and clinical condition.

Understanding of behavioral management and crisis intervention techniques.

Awareness of trauma-informed care principles and cultural diversity.
