Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Oversight

Core Duties:

Leads the nursing services within the Children's Outpatient Program clinic.

Identifies challenges, assesses alternatives, and implements effective resolutions.

Monitors program agreements, financial plans, and staff efficiency as directed.

Ensures adherence to DMH, Joint Commission, and Medicaid regulations.

Guarantees compliance with SAMHSA grant and UDS data obligations.

Communicates effectively with physicians regarding patients' physical and mental health as necessary.

Collaborates with the multi-disciplinary team and actively participates in the development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan as required.

Administers medications while observing the Seven Rights of medication administration.

Contacts laboratories, requests and monitors results, and reports any abnormal findings to the physician.

Provides emergency care as necessary (CPR, MindSet, PRN Medications), in accordance with AltaPointe policies and procedures.


Supervises and oversees MAC services, ensuring ongoing compliance with the Nurse Delegation Program for the Transitional Age residential program.


Demonstrates the ability to recognize crisis situations and effectively deescalates or resolves them as needed.

Acts as the MAS nurse for the division.

Adheres to the professional code of ethics.

Effectively demonstrates the application of competencies specific to children/adolescents and adults.

Personnel Management:
Conducts interviews and screens nursing candidates when necessary, completing the required documentation as outlined by Personnel Policy and Procedures.

Provides staff training during the general orientation of the facility, covering policies, procedures, program operations, and specific skill areas.

Applies personnel policies and procedures consistently and knowledgeably.

Completes employee performance evaluations for program staff objectively and submits them to the Personnel department promptly.

Promotes the concept of treatment teams and actively participates as a member.

Exhibits positive and effective leadership.

Offers consultation and supervision to staff as needed, either individually or through regular group meetings.

Ensures the competence of nursing staff within the program.

Supervision and Consultation:
Seeks clinical supervision and consultation as needed.

Welcomes and implements suggestions for improvement.

Actively works to enhance clinical skills.

Clinical Documentation

Documents in a timely manner in accordance with AltaPointe policy.

Records clearly and concisely the types of consumer issues, treatment objectives, and services rendered.

Ensures documentation is completed promptly, accurately, and updated as necessary.

Maintains legibility in all documentation.

Exhibits courteous and respectful attitudes towards consumers, visitors, and colleagues:

Treats consumers with care, dignity, and compassion.

Respects consumer privacy and confidentiality.

Maintains a pleasant and cooperative demeanor with others.

Assists consumers and visitors as required.

Maintains a gentle and calm approach with consumers and their families.

Administrative and Related Duties:
Actively engages in Performance Improvement initiatives.

Participates in MMHC committees as required.

Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Accesses appropriate community resources based on consumer needs.

Adheres to MMHC Policy and Procedures.

Maintains current state licensure and fulfills renewal requirements (e.g., CEUs), attending necessary in-services and workshops.

Qualifications:
Possesses a current RN license to practice in the state of Alabama.

Knowledge in child/adolescent and adult specialties, to be attained within six months of employment:

Understanding of psychiatric disorders in child/adolescent and adult populations.

Knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing care.

Basic understanding of medical terminology.

Familiarity with psychopharmacology and the use of psychotropic medications in child/adolescent and adult populations.

Knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, and interventions common to acute psychotic consumers, as well as non-violent crisis intervention practices.

Understanding of growth and development principles.

Knowledge of educational methods suitable for children/adolescents with severe and persistent psychiatric disorders.

Awareness of cultural diversity.

Familiarity with DMH, Medicaid, and Joint Commission standards.

Knowledge of the Nurse Delegation Program standards and successful completion of MAS certifications.

Proficient in utilizing electronic health records.

Understanding of private insurance reimbursement.

Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care Principles.
