Position Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Marine or Naval Engineer with a background or interest in marine forensic analysis, litigation assistance, risk assessment consulting, and repair and retrofit design.

The ideal candidate will possess a blend of curiosity, engineering proficiency, and strong writing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead investigations within the maritime and waterfront environments, industrial sites, marine infrastructure, transportation sectors, and advanced technology applications.

You will be backed by a diverse team of professionals, ranging from entry-level engineers to senior executives.

Project Management

You will have the autonomy to manage projects independently while also providing support to engineers in the Forensics practice as required.

Additionally, you will engage in business development initiatives, including conferences and networking events.

Client Interaction

Your role will involve direct collaboration with a variety of clients, including legal professionals, vessel and terminal property owners, contractors, and insurance representatives, on numerous investigations that may encompass:

  • Mooring, Towing, and Anchoring Assessments
  • Hull Damage Evaluations and Repair Strategies
  • Dry Dock and Ship Lift Operations
  • Marine Casualty or Accident Investigations
  • Structural and Material Failure Evaluations
  • Mechanical Failure Assessments
  • Naval Architecture
  • Equipment Breakdown Analysis
  • Root Cause Investigations
  • Equipment Damage Evaluations
  • Consulting on Equipment Loss and Mitigation
  • Fire Protection and Detection Systems

You may also be called upon to serve as an expert witness in various legal contexts, including depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials, with our full support.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in maritime or naval engineering is essential, with a Master's degree in a related field preferred.

Applicants should have a minimum of 12 years of experience in the maritime and naval sector.

A Marine and Naval Architecture Professional Engineering (PE) License in at least one jurisdiction is required, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional jurisdictions.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the capability to develop or bring a book of business.

Strong report writing skills that articulate engineering opinions and conclusions, supported by factual and sound engineering principles, are necessary.

Collaboration with other disciplines, meeting deadlines, and willingness to travel for short assignments are also required.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position typically ranges from $150,000 to $250,000 annually, based on various factors such as operational needs, individual qualifications, and experience.
