Position Overview

The role of the Senior Marine Underwriter is crucial in delivering impactful insurance solutions through a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills. This position offers an opportunity to advance into a senior-level capacity.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Marine Underwriter, you will:

  • Implement the strategic objectives and profitability targets for the Marine sector in the U.S. market.
  • Uphold underwriting best practices to ensure appropriate pricing and rating.
  • Evaluate and underwrite both new and existing business in alignment with established underwriting authority.
  • Negotiate terms, pricing, and deal structures effectively.
  • Serve as the primary referral underwriter for the U.S. team in the absence of the Head of Marine.
  • Conduct thorough risk evaluations to support profitable portfolio growth.
  • Review and negotiate policy wordings and coverage options.
  • Monitor aggregate exposure across various sub-classes and geographical areas.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures for document management and workflow systems.
  • Identify trends within the portfolio and implement measures to mitigate adverse exposures.
  • Manage a diverse book of business, including broker engagement and action plans for underperforming accounts.
  • Participate in special underwriting projects as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience in Marine or related fields.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of P&C lines, including regulatory environments and risk factors.
  • Strong relationships with clients and intermediaries.
  • Proficiency in market segmentation and portfolio management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • A Bachelor's degree or professional designation in a relevant field is preferred.
