Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Underwriter, you will:
- Deliver underwriting and operational excellence by executing strategic business objectives and profitability targets for the Marine sector.
- Uphold consistent underwriting practices to ensure pricing adequacy and risk assessment.
- Evaluate and underwrite both new and existing marine business in alignment with established authority.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and deal structures effectively.
- Serve as the primary underwriter for the U.S. team in the absence of the Head of Marine, ensuring adherence to underwriting philosophies.
- Conduct technical evaluations of risks to foster profitable portfolio growth.
- Review and negotiate coverage terms and manuscript wordings.
- Monitor aggregate exposure across various sub-classes and geographical areas.
- Ensure compliance with internal procedures regarding document management and risk recording.
- Identify trends within the portfolio and implement measures to mitigate adverse exposures.
- Manage a diverse book of business, including broker plans and action strategies for underperforming accounts.
- Engage in special underwriting projects as required.
Focus Areas
Your role will emphasize:
- Effective execution of underwriting standards and achieving financial targets.
- Active participation in broker engagement initiatives to enhance submission flow.
- Development of marketing strategies to foster new and existing business relationships.
- Collaboration with distribution partners to maintain visibility and engagement.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 3 years of underwriting experience in the marine insurance sector.
- Comprehensive knowledge of property and casualty lines, including relevant regulatory environments.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to navigate complex insurance structures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and effective communication skills.
- A bachelor’s degree or professional designation in a relevant field is preferred.
