JOB SUMMARY

This role is pivotal in delivering application support for essential information systems utilized by Electrical Engineering and Control Centers, focusing on Distribution Automation and Distributed Energy integration. The incumbent will be tasked with the design, implementation, and maintenance of databases, displays, and applications pertinent to distribution automation systems and processes.

This position directly contributes to the objectives of REV (Reforming the Energy Vision) and aligns with the strategic interests of ESPO Corporation, including enhancing application platform features to integrate distributed resources into electrical systems, supporting electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and promoting the adoption of energy efficiency and clean heating technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide application support for critical information systems used by Electrical Engineering and Control Centers.
  • Design, implement, and maintain databases, displays, and applications related to distribution automation systems.
  • Collaborate with vendors to assess new systems for potential integration into operational and engineering platforms.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of electric delivery systems and automation, including distribution automation devices such as reclosers, capacitors, and switches.
  • Work with users to gather requirements for system enhancements and new system development, assisting in programming specifications based on system design.
  • Act as a liaison among project teams, external agencies, contractors, and various departments within the company to ensure project coordination and completion.
  • Oversee the installation of vendor products and maintain vendor packages in production, conducting high-level application testing for necessary technology upgrades.
  • Develop scripts and APIs to automate processes and facilitate data sharing across departments and applications.
  • Conduct testing and troubleshooting of issues within system environments, collaborating with teams to create plans for coordinated data sharing based on departmental and user requirements.
  • Monitor and uphold compliance with Cyber Security Standards, including patch management, anti-virus updates, and system health checks.
  • Install, configure, and update applications used for managing historical SCADA/DSCADA data.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members in the Systems Engineering group, overseeing work assignments and collaborating on new strategies and integrated information systems development.
  • Support applications and databases used for managing, planning, and controlling electric utility infrastructure.
  • Provide on-call support for the DSCADA system on a rotating basis.
  • Assist field crews in the commissioning of remotely controlled DSCADA devices.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 5 to 10 years of technical experience in operations, engineering, system operations, or information systems.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, support staff, and various management levels.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and adaptable to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in team settings and lead cross-functional teams as needed.
  • Familiarity with database structures and queries.
  • Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages (Java, VB, C#, Python).
  • Willingness to travel to various company locations and attend meetings and conferences as required.
  • Knowledge of PI, eDNA, Oracle, ODBC, MS-Access, or MS-SQL.
  • Experience in reading and manipulating flat files.
  • Familiarity with real-time control system applications.
  • Experience in Python scripting.
  • Knowledge of big data analytics.
  • Experience with digital mapping systems (GIS).
