Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize engineering principles to address mechanical challenges, focusing on the dynamics of heat, gas, air, fluids, and solid materials to ensure safe and efficient design of machinery and systems.
  • Break down project objectives into clear and manageable design specifications.
  • Employ best practices in design methodologies and technologies to create and validate designs that meet established requirements.
  • Develop mathematical models for mechanical, chemical, and electrical systems to support design verification.
  • Stay informed about relevant codes and standards to ensure compliance in all engineering activities.
  • Document designs thoroughly, including models, drawings, and specifications, to demonstrate adherence to requirements and standards.
  • Establish testing and quality assurance protocols to maintain critical design features.
  • Oversee fabrication and assembly processes to ensure alignment with design specifications.
  • Conduct calculations and evaluations related to project specifications, including material selection and mechanical design considerations.
  • Provide innovative solutions to technical issues and suggest improvements for production processes.
  • Monitor and assess the performance of mechanical systems, recommending maintenance practices and coordinating necessary resources.
  • Contribute to the development of new projects, including proposal writing and business planning.
  • Ensure design modifications comply with technical requirements and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain configuration management of technical baselines and ensure consistency across documentation.
  • Enhance the skills of junior engineers through mentorship and training.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define experiment requirements and support the design and testing of experiments.
  • Lead the design and fabrication of experiments, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety standards.
  • Drive the development of advanced methods and tools for post-irradiation examination of test fuel.
  • Oversee project-specific documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant experience appropriate to the entry-level position.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy clearance.
