Job Summary

Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team of experts in chemical, mechanical, and materials engineering. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for developing computational models that integrate interdisciplinary skills in fluid flow, heat transfer, chemistry, combustion, materials science, nuclear science, and engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement computational models to simulate complex physical processes, including fluid flow, heat transfer, and chemical reactions.
  • Collaborate with a team of experts to advance our understanding of physicochemical processes occurring in physical systems and translate that understanding into actionable ideas and solutions.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify areas for improvement and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Communicate research findings and results to both technical and non-technical audiences through reports, presentations, and publications.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Fluency in the English language and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (STAR-CCM+, Nek5000/NekRS) and computational chemistry or thermodynamics (Cantera, CHEMKIN, FactSage, ThermoCalc).
  • Knowledge of thermomechanical analysis using finite element modeling (preferably with Multiphysics Object-Oriented Simulation Environment software) and meshing software (Cubit or equivalent).
  • Experience with visualization of scientific data (ParaView or similar) and machine learning/artificial intelligence algorithms.
  • High performance computing, scripting, and batch processing skills, including LINUX and Python programming.
