Position Overview:

As the Associate Director, you will collaborate closely with the Area Director, Deputy Director, fellow Associate Directors, and other essential personnel, engaging in high-level management discussions, decision-making, and policy formulation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of professional and consultative staff, ensuring effective work planning, organization, and direction.
  • Evaluate, manage, and direct the Area Environmental Health and Engineering Program.
  • Prepare an annual budget for program expenditures, covering personnel costs, travel, training, materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Act as the primary advisor and technical consultant to Rural and Urban Health Programs and tribal governments regarding environmental health and engineering matters, including healthcare and sanitation facilities.
  • Represent the Area Director and the OEHE program at tribal meetings, IHS-sponsored conferences, and other official events to address program needs and priorities.

Major Programs:

  • Environmental Health Services: Activities aimed at assisting families and communities in planning, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive environmental health programs by identifying and rectifying harmful environmental conditions.
  • Sanitation Facilities Construction: Initiatives designed to provide safe water supplies and adequate waste disposal systems, enhancing the living environment for families and communities.
  • Health Facilities Engineering: Collaborate with organizations to ensure the effective construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of healthcare facilities, providing a safe environment for patients and protecting healthcare investments.

Employment Conditions:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after a specific date.
  • This position involves contact with Indian children, necessitating a thorough background check.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required prior to starting the role.

Qualifications:

To qualify, candidates must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education relevant to the position. Experience includes both paid and unpaid roles, such as volunteer work through national service programs.

Basic Requirements:

  • A degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Combination of education and experience demonstrating a thorough understanding of engineering principles.

Minimum Qualifications:

Specialized experience is required, which includes management and direction of health facilities engineering programs, sanitation facilities construction, or environmental health services.
