Position Overview

As an Environmental Project Engineer, you will play a crucial role in orchestrating, executing, and supervising field operations and technical activities aimed at gathering environmental and compliance data, including soil, sediment, groundwater, stormwater, wastewater, and vapor. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing construction activities, analyzing environmental data, conducting engineering assessments, and preparing essential documentation such as work plans, reports, and design specifications. You will also manage projects and provide guidance to junior team members, collaborating closely with senior engineers and geologists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and oversee field investigations and data collection efforts related to environmental compliance, including soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor sampling. Fieldwork may involve drilling, test pitting, and compliance inspections.
  • Analyze and interpret both field and laboratory data, employing engineering and scientific methodologies to devise solutions for complex environmental challenges.
  • Assess the movement and impact of environmental contaminants across various media, developing conceptual models to understand exposure pathways.
  • Formulate solutions to environmental issues by evaluating applicable technologies and methodologies.
  • Draft remedial investigation work plans, sampling strategies, data reports, and cleanup action plans for projects involving multiple contaminated media.
  • Conduct cost analysis to adhere to relevant cleanup regulations.
  • Create design documents and supporting materials, including calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare permit applications and liaise with regulatory bodies to secure necessary project approvals.
  • Assist clients with the bidding process and contractor selection for remediation projects.
  • Oversee construction activities related to remediation and compliance, including dredging, installation of remediation systems, and site restoration.
  • Provide project closure and long-term monitoring support for environmental initiatives.
  • Manage project tasks, including scope development, budgeting, client coordination, invoicing, and contract management.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and project teams throughout project lifecycles.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff members.
  • Responsibilities may vary based on specific project requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in environmental consulting or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and their application, including cleanup and compliance standards.
  • Experience in managing environmental field investigations and oversight of remediation activities.
  • Ability to prepare technical documents under the guidance of senior engineers or geologists.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes for environmental projects is advantageous.
  • Strong project management and technical skills in environmental engineering.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Commitment to safety and knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Completion of background checks and pre-employment assessments is required.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficiency in using a computer for extended periods.
  • Willingness to travel for project assignments as necessary.
