Role Overview: In this staff-level position, you will collaborate closely with mid- and senior-level project managers, providing essential technical support in identifying and mitigating potential environmental risks. Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing field explorations and construction activities.
  • Documenting field conditions, generating field reports, and contributing to report preparation.
  • Managing regulatory reporting, monitoring, and record-keeping.
  • Conducting literature reviews and analyzing historical data.
  • Performing data analysis and calculations under supervision.
  • Engaging in project management tasks, including budgeting and proposal development.
  • Assisting with smaller projects or supporting larger initiatives to enhance project management skills.

Work Environment: GSI promotes a hybrid work model, allowing flexible working hours. The ideal candidate should be prepared to work in the Portland office at least two days per week. Project deadlines may necessitate extended hours occasionally. Fieldwork will comprise approximately 50% of your time, typically within a two-hour radius, with potential overnight stays. Field activities may expose you to various environmental conditions, including adverse weather, extreme temperatures, and rugged terrain. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. Physical demands may include lifting equipment up to 50 pounds and navigating uneven terrain.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (cost covered by GSI).
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in geology, environmental engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience.
