Your Role

We are seeking a seasoned engineer with over 15 years of professional experience in the planning and design of river, stream, and floodplain projects. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of ecologists, landscape architects, engineers, and scientists to deliver integrated projects in intricate ecological environments. The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of mitigation, restoration, flood risk management, and infrastructure protection initiatives for both public and private clients throughout the Western United States. Typical project types include:

  • Restoration and enhancement of river and stream habitats
  • Improvements for fish passage
  • Assessment and planning for watersheds and floodplains
  • Restoration of coastal habitats
  • Stabilization of river and stream banks
  • Flood control initiatives
  • Development and protection of infrastructure
  • Support for various engineering and surface water management projects

Essential Qualifications

Education, Experience, & Licensure/Certifications

  • 15+ years of professional experience in the design and conceptualization of river restoration and floodplain management projects
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a master's degree in civil or environmental engineering if the undergraduate degree was not in engineering
  • Current professional engineer (PE) license in Washington or Oregon, or the ability to obtain one through comity based on licensure in another U.S. state
  • Understanding of Washington State permitting requirements (e.g., SEPA, HPA, Shoreline)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Familiarity with watershed characteristics and processes, particularly in the Pacific Northwest
  • Experience in preparing design plans, construction specifications, and cost estimates
  • Proven ability to manage design tasks from inception to completion
  • Experience in proposal preparation and development of scopes of work and budgets
  • Business development experience
  • Capacity to handle multiple tasks and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in civil engineering or environmental science with a focus on aquatic ecosystem restoration, hydraulics, or geomorphology
  • Project management experience in floodplain and restoration design or planning
  • Experience in fish passage analysis and design for roadway culverts
  • Construction management and inspection experience
  • Knowledge of hydrologic analysis and modeling techniques
  • Experience with hydraulic modeling (one- and two-dimensional)
  • Permit application experience in Western states
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and ArcGIS
  • Experience with field data collection and related technologies
