Position Summary:
We are seeking a mid-level Project Geotechnical Engineer to enhance our expanding operations. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded, organized problem solver with exceptional communication skills and a passion for tackling technical challenges. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience while addressing real-world engineering issues under the guidance of senior engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop geotechnical engineering scopes of services and prepare fee estimates.
  • Plan and oversee geotechnical investigations.
  • Manage fieldwork related to geotechnical and construction phase observation and testing.
  • Assign, review, and interpret geotechnical laboratory tests.
  • Create basic plans and figures utilizing AutoCAD and GIS.
  • Conduct geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations.
  • Formulate geotechnical engineering recommendations and draft reports.
  • Engage in project management activities, including resource communication, client expectation management, and budget oversight.
  • Foster client relationships and identify business development opportunities.
  • Mentor junior engineers based on experience level.
  • Collaborate within the geotechnical engineering department and across Schnabel offices to balance workloads effectively.
  • Occasionally perform fieldwork, including logging test borings and on-site consultations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineering registration in Virginia or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and GIS for developing geotechnical deliverables.
  • Experience with gINT software and standard geotechnical analysis software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and ability to multitask.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to self-improvement.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Effective time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical capability to lift 60 pounds and navigate construction sites.
  • Willingness to perform fieldwork and travel as necessary.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in geotechnical engineering for transportation projects, including design-build.
  • Managerial or mentoring experience.
  • Familiarity with Deltek Vantage Point software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check, including criminal history and motor vehicle record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening.
