Position Overview:
We are seeking a mid-level Project Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to our expanding operations. The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded, organized problem solver with strong communication skills and a passion for tackling technical challenges. This role offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working under the guidance of senior engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop geotechnical engineering scopes of work and fee proposals
  • Oversee geotechnical investigations and manage fieldwork
  • Review and interpret laboratory test results
  • Create basic plans and figures utilizing AutoCAD and GIS
  • Conduct geotechnical analyses and calculations
  • Prepare geotechnical reports and recommendations
  • Manage project activities, including resource allocation and client communication
  • Foster client relationships and explore business development opportunities
  • Mentor junior engineers as needed
  • Collaborate with team members across various Schnabel offices
  • Occasionally perform fieldwork, including logging test borings and site consultations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; Master's degree preferred
  • Professional Engineering registration in Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in consulting geotechnical engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and gINT software
  • Experience with geotechnical analysis software such as LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GeoStudio, Settle3D, or similar
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Willingness to engage in a collaborative team environment
  • Physical capability to perform fieldwork and travel as necessary

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with geotechnical engineering for transportation projects
  • Managerial or mentoring experience
  • Familiarity with Deltek Vantage Point and Microsoft Teams

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to pass background checks and pre-employment screenings
