Transportation Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute work on transportation initiatives, including traffic operations, roadway design, bridge design, transportation planning, and environmental assessments.
  • Oversee the creation of engineering reports, plans, and specifications for both major and minor projects.
  • Manage the preparation and evaluation of preliminary and final plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates, providing recommendations for necessary modifications.
  • Participate in contract bidding and administration as required.
  • Supervise and monitor the design and ongoing progress of projects, coordinating with relevant officials and external agencies.
  • Guide less experienced engineers and technical support staff assigned to projects.
  • Coordinate efforts with clients, contractors, external consultants, and internal staff.
  • Engage with project team members, client representatives, review agencies, and others to resolve complex issues, including conflicting design requirements and coordination challenges.
  • Possess knowledge of Department of Transportation systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Understand standard operations, policies, and procedures within the A/E industry.
  • Exhibit advanced knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in standard office practices and procedures, including the use of office equipment such as personal computers and calculators.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel, effectively.
  • Show strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Build and maintain excellent interpersonal relationships while working independently on multiple tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology
  • 5-10 years of experience in the transportation sector is required.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification is mandatory.
  • Experience with DOT projects is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with software systems such as HCS, SYNCHRO, SIDRA, CORSIM, VISSIM, CUBE, TransCAD, Microstation, and Microsoft Office is essential.
