Position Overview:

The Estimator is accountable for assessing project costs and executing various preconstruction responsibilities within the Preconstruction Services division. This role encompasses conceptual and schematic cost evaluations, as well as negotiated and competitive bidding estimates, while collaborating closely with project managers and support teams to ensure accurate and detailed estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops estimates for DOT and municipal projects in accordance with bidding protocols.
  • Requests proposals from subcontractors.
  • Analyzes all project plans, specifications, and requirements set forth by Owners and Engineers during the bidding phase.
  • Creates comprehensive bid proposals, detailing cost breakdowns, clarifications, scope, and exclusions.
  • Manages and disseminates all Requests for Information (R.F.I.s) related to estimating and job modifications.
  • Conducts takeoffs utilizing Agtek and On-Screen software.
  • Addresses inquiries from subcontractors regarding bids.
  • Assists in pricing drawings and any subsequent revisions.
  • Offers value engineering solutions.
  • Prepares subcontractor comparisons for assessment.
  • Facilitates the transition of estimates to project managers.
  • Generates detailed scopes of work for all trades involved.
  • Conducts post-bid buyouts in collaboration with project management.
  • Creates a follow-up call list to ensure coverage.
  • Maintains positive relationships with clients and subcontractors.
  • This position is considered safety-sensitive regarding medical marijuana usage.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in a construction-related field is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in civil or heavy construction with responsibilities similar to those outlined above.
  • Proficient understanding of plans and specifications, along with construction management principles.
  • Strong negotiation capabilities.

Technical Skills:

  • Beginner to Intermediate proficiency in Agtek or Earthwork modeling.
  • Beginner to Intermediate experience with estimating software.
  • Beginner to Intermediate skills in electronic takeoff processes.
  • Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Project or Primavera.
  • Intermediate understanding of digital imaging (opening, viewing, customizing, and printing).
  • Exceptional organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as project demands require.
  • Ability to travel across construction sites during all project phases.

  • Willingness to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in various positions as needed.
