Position Overview:

The Estimator is accountable for assessing project costs and executing various preconstruction responsibilities within the Preconstruction Services division. This role encompasses preliminary and detailed estimating, both for negotiated and competitive bids, while collaborating closely with project managers and support teams, as well as maintaining client relationships to ensure accurate and reliable estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops estimates for DOT/Municipal projects in accordance with bidding protocols.
  • Requests proposals from subcontractors.
  • Analyzes all plans, specifications, and requirements from Owners/Engineers pertinent to the bidding process.
  • Creates bid proposals, detailing cost breakdowns, clarifications, scope, and exclusions.
  • Manages and disseminates all Requests for Information (R.F.I.s) related to estimating and job modifications.
  • Conducts takeoffs utilizing Agtek and On-Screen software.
  • Addresses all inquiries from subcontractors regarding bids.
  • Assists in pricing drawings and modifications.
  • Offers value engineering services.
  • Compiles subcontractor comparisons for assessment.
  • Facilitates the turnover of estimates to project managers.
  • Generates scopes of work for all trades involved.
  • Coordinates post-bid buyouts alongside the Project Manager.
  • Creates call lists and follows up for coverage.
  • Maintains positive relationships with clients and subcontractors.
  • This position is safety-sensitive regarding medical marijuana considerations.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in a construction-related field is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in civil/heavy construction performing similar responsibilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of plans and specifications, along with construction management.
  • Strong negotiation skills.

Technical Skills:

  • Beginner to Intermediate proficiency in Agtek or Earthwork modeling.
  • Beginner to Intermediate knowledge of estimating software.
  • Beginner to Intermediate electronic takeoff capabilities.
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Project or Primavera.
  • Intermediate understanding of digital images (opening, viewing, customizing, and printing).
  • Exceptional organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Willingness to work extended hours as project schedules or urgent situations demand.
  • Capability to travel across construction sites during all project phases.
  • Leadership and motivational skills.
  • Professional demeanor in high-pressure situations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Capability to bend, squat, climb stairs, and lift regularly.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing between 5 to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces.

Work Environment:

  • Office, cubicle, job site, or workstation settings.
