Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at the National Women's Soccer League. As a key member of our organization, you will provide general legal support to the league and its teams, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transactional Support: Draft, prepare, and review a variety of transactional documents, including sponsorships, licensing agreements, media rights agreements, joint ventures, consulting agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and other agreements.
  • Investigations and Compliance: Manage investigations related to violations of the NWSL Policy to Prevent and Eliminate Workplace Discrimination, Harassment, and Bullying and other League Rules.
  • League Governance: Support league and team governance, ownership transactions, and expansion matters.
  • Intellectual Property: Support League and clubs on intellectual property matters, including trademark and copyright prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement.
  • Data Protection and Privacy: Provide strategic legal advice to business teams regarding data collection and processing and privacy compliance.
  • Policies and Procedures: Assist in developing league policies and procedures and interpreting applicable league rules.
  • Risk Management: Support risk management efforts and management of insurance policies.
  • Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvements in policies and processes, including document templates; evaluate workflows and establish priorities.
Requirements
  • Education: Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Experience: Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience at a leading law firm and/or corporate legal department with relevant experience.
  • Skills: Strong teamwork and relationship management skills; works effectively as a liaison between the legal department and all internal clients and external partners/stakeholders.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to be flexible and resourceful in response to changing priorities and needs; demonstrated willingness to continuously acquire new competencies and accept new challenges.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with Microsoft applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and must be able to effectively manage communications and projects with a remote workforce.
  • Integrity: Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and dedication in the fulfillment of commitments.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Availability: Ability to work nontraditional hours.
  • Drafting and Negotiation: Strong drafting and negotiating skills.
