Domain Architect

Position Overview

The primary objective of this role is to oversee and guide the architectural framework within a specific domain. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that all technological solutions align with both functional and non-functional requirements, adhere to established architectural standards, and support the overarching digital transformation goals of the organization.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional leadership capabilities, possess outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and have a proven track record of articulating technical, functional, and managerial concepts effectively to a diverse audience, ranging from executive leadership to technical teams. Proficiency in designing and developing secure, scalable, and resilient distributed systems is essential.

The Domain Architect will collaborate closely with their designated domains to influence significant technology decisions. They will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of business architecture documents and technology roadmaps specific to their domain.

Key Responsibilities:

As a member of the Domain leadership team, you will:

  • Contribute to the formulation of technology strategies and influence the direction of technology initiatives.
  • Oversee all architectural responsibilities within the domain.
  • Engage with various stakeholders and architects to foster consensus.
  • Develop and maintain a Business Capability map for the domain.
  • Establish and update the Technology Strategy, including current and future state architectures.
  • Participate in cross-domain architectural discussions and initiatives.
  • Support solution architecture efforts by creating high-level and detailed design documents.
  • Undertake additional tasks as directed by the Domain Architecture Leader.

Job Responsibilities Breakdown

· Domain Leadership Engagement (10%)

  • Collaborate with the domain leadership team.
  • Facilitate consensus on technology strategies.
  • Assess the technological feasibility of business proposals.

· Engagement on Domain Objectives and Projects (15%)

  • Work with domain stakeholders to gather business requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with architectural guidelines for all designs.

· Supporting Solution Architecture (15%)

  • Partner with Solution Architects to develop high-level designs.
  • Review and validate low-level designs from Solution Architects.
  • Provide guidance to ensure solutions are fit for purpose.
  • Mentor junior Solution Architects.

· Business Capabilities and Technology Architecture (15%)

  • Create business capability maps through stakeholder interviews.
  • Conduct capability assessments for new initiatives.
  • Develop capability heatmaps to inform technology roadmaps.
  • Define value streams for the domain.

· Documentation of Key Decisions and Artifacts (15%)

  • Document decisions, risks, and impediments related to design discussions.
  • Maintain a record of evidence for decisions made.
  • Ensure stakeholder consensus is documented.

· Architectural Governance (20%)

  • Oversee high-level and low-level designs during Domain Architecture Office Hours.
  • Approve designs that meet established criteria.
  • Make informed decisions using standardized processes.
  • Represent the domain in architectural governance meetings.

· Cross-Domain Collaboration (10%)

  • Collaborate with other domain architects to achieve design consensus.
  • Identify cross-domain impacts on design initiatives.
  • Educate on reusable design elements applicable across domains.
  • Engage in cross-domain projects and initiatives.
