In the capacity of CVC/VC Analyst for the West Coast, you will collaborate with investors, entrepreneurs, and the broader innovation landscape to uncover distinctive and high-potential emerging technologies and business prospects for investment, mergers and acquisitions, and direct collaboration. Your responsibilities will primarily involve identifying, proposing, and spearheading strategic investment initiatives with the Corporate Venturing team, alongside expanding your network and sourcing deals within the West Coast region.

We encourage candidates with a background in Corporate Strategic investment and M&A related to startup ventures, particularly those with a robust understanding of various technology sectors for initial due diligence evaluations, to consider this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your expertise in investment, venture capital, startups, and engineering technology to explore the startup innovation ecosystem, identifying viable opportunities for investment and collaboration. Focus areas will include Automotive, Transportation, Mobility (including Aerospace), and initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
  • Identify and source investment opportunities that involve transformative technologies crucial to our business and product offerings.
  • Establish high-quality deal flow through a well-developed network of VC/CVC firms and startups.
  • Enhance and expand your professional network, engaging with Venture Capital (VC) Firms, Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) Firms, startups, and associated entities.
  • Conduct initial due diligence assessments, evaluating market potential, technical capabilities, financial health, and team dynamics by gathering insights from target companies and industry experts.
  • Prepare and present investment proposals to the ventures team on a weekly basis.
  • Lead the internal investment process for selected opportunities.
  • Act as the primary liaison and support for portfolio companies.
  • Facilitate internal startup collaborations as needed.
  • Proactively identify investment, M&A, and collaboration opportunities involving emerging and transformative technologies relevant to our current and future business landscape.
  • Contribute to the development of investment theses across various technology domains.
  • Serve as a key team member with expertise in 2-3 technology verticals of interest.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2-5+ years of experience in a corporate venture capital (CVC) or venture capital (VC) environment.
  • Demonstrated experience as part of a corporate venture capital (CVC) or venture capital (VC) team.
  • A unique combination of skills in investment, venture capital, startups, and engineering technology.
  • A proven track record in sourcing, proposing, and finalizing early-stage investments and deals.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following sectors: CASE (Connected, Automated, Shared, and Electrified) Mobility, Smart City, Energy/Climate Tech, with the ability to conduct initial due diligence in these areas.
  • A strong network in the Bay Area for high-quality deal sourcing.
  • Solid understanding of various technology sectors for initial due diligence assessments.
  • Experience and knowledge in automotive, transportation, mobility (including aerospace), and initiatives to mitigate carbon emissions.
  • Familiarity with strategic investment and M&A processes related to startup opportunities.
  • Understanding of the startup ecosystem and the VC or CVC processes.
  • Ability to identify a high volume of unique and investable deal flow opportunities.
  • A Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • A passion for leveraging new technologies to enhance experiences and improve human mobility.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret data and communicate findings effectively.
  • Highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proactive and adaptable, thriving in dynamic environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Japanese business culture and practices.
  • A strong network on the East Coast is advantageous.
  • Experience in corporate development.
  • Formal investment due diligence experience.
  • A Master's degree in science, engineering, materials, or a related field is highly preferred.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid schedule with onsite work required three days a week.

Travel Requirements: Up to 30% domestic and international travel may be necessary.

Employment Type: Contract to Hire

Compensation: $55-$75/hr
