Technical Support Engineer - Renewable Energy Solutions

As a Technical Support Engineer at Lunar Energy, you will play a pivotal role in the introduction of innovative products, facilitating pilot initiatives with channel partners, and delivering comprehensive training and assistance for the deployment of Lunar Systems in various environments. This dynamic position entails frequent travel to diverse locations, where you will actively support the service and training teams in providing essential field assistance and coordination. This position necessitates collaboration across multiple departments to design a leading-edge technical training program. The objective is to guarantee quality installations, troubleshoot field issues, conduct advanced service diagnostics, resolve technical challenges, and exemplify safe working practices. This role demands sound technical judgment and inventive problem-solving abilities to enhance the field operations of our installation partners. Technical Support Engineers are integral to the team, ensuring that the Lunar value proposition and expectations are met in the field. In your role at Lunar, you will likely...
  • Engage in travel as this is a field-based position, with ongoing regional travel to support installers and end customers.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on the installation of all Lunar products.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and installer partners to troubleshoot and resolve technical field issues promptly, ensuring high-quality installations and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and root-cause analysis, both remotely and on-site.
  • Deliver training sessions for Lunar channel partners and internal staff, including lab, remote, on-the-job, and ongoing education.
  • Perform quality audits of channel partner installations.
  • Educate relevant authorities and secure necessary permits for the Lunar System in various regions.
  • Analyze data and report on key metrics, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Identify common installer errors or system issues and propose training, design, software, or hardware solutions to mitigate these challenges.
  • Take ownership of issues or inquiries, escalating problems to the appropriate personnel and following up with customers as needed.
  • Maintain strong relationships with partner teams, ensuring thorough communication and follow-through on all interactions.
  • Utilize internal software to communicate with installation partners, ensuring accurate categorization and definition of issues.
Desired Skills:
  • Degree in engineering or equivalent technical field experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in the design and installation of residential solar, battery, and/or EV charging products.
  • Must possess a clean driving record and pass a driving background check.
  • Valid state or local Electrical Journeyman certification or license preferred.
  • Familiarity with the NEC and applicable codes and standards.
  • Ability to interpret single line drawings, permit packages, and technical specifications for PV, ESS, and EVSE systems.
  • Proficient in analyzing telemetry data and identifying anomalies in large datasets.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting complex electrical issues.
  • Understanding of interconnection activities, building and safety department processes, and basic construction principles.
  • Commitment to adhering to company safety policies and procedures, including identifying and reporting safety hazards.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or G-Suite, with the ability to create and utilize spreadsheets, documents, and presentations.
  • Able to thrive in a high-performance, cross-functional organization with tight timelines and ambitious goals.
  • Willingness to work non-routine hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required.
  • Flexibility to travel locally and nationally, focusing primarily on your local region.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to transport materials and equipment for job tasks (up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs with assistance).
  • Capability to work on rooftops with various angles and surfaces, requiring frequent bending, twisting, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, turning, standing, and balancing.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Comfortable working in outdoor conditions, including excessive noise, extreme temperatures, and humidity.
  • Frequent use of hand functions requiring fine motor skills, including manipulation, grasping, and pinching.
  • Ability to work safely with equipment such as ladders and personal protective gear.
  • Capacity to work in varying light conditions.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and hear verbal commands.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, requiring kneeling and crouching.

Compensation Philosophy: Our goal is to ensure that all Lunar Energy employees receive fair compensation. The salary range for this position is a good faith estimate provided in accordance with the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The estimated salary range for this position, depending on experience, is: $85,000 - $130,000 USD.
