Position Summary:
The Senior Manager, Open Innovation - AI will spearhead research and development efforts aimed at establishing collaborations with external AI innovations. This role is pivotal in crafting strategies that deliver cutting-edge solutions within Samsung's device ecosystem.
The Open Innovation Group merges Samsung's extensive product knowledge with the latest technological advancements to design futuristic and innovative products, services, and experiences that enhance customer lifestyles. Our focus is on researching, identifying, and promoting new technologies that elevate consumer experiences across multiple product categories.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit expertise in the AI domain by monitoring market trends, technological advancements, and academic research pertinent to Samsung's Device Experiences (DX) to identify partnership opportunities and innovative user experiences.
- Navigate the dynamic landscape of AI, evaluating its innovative potential across various disciplines such as speech/language processing, knowledge representation, reasoning, and computer vision.
- Build and maintain relationships with external technology startups, venture capitalists, and academic institutions to uncover breakthrough innovations and effectively convey their value to Samsung's R&D teams and global executives.
- Act as the primary liaison between partners and Samsung, leading discussions, facilitating evaluations, and driving proof of concepts with a focus on partnership, commercialization, investment, or mergers and acquisitions.
- Coordinate cross-functional and geographically diverse team activities, establishing project milestones and motivating teams to achieve project timelines and deliverables.
- Proactively address uncertainties through strategic planning followed by tactical execution.
- Develop a clear understanding of team priorities to balance urgent tasks with daily responsibilities.
- Proactively conceptualize and define new consumer experiences through partnerships.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a technology or engineering field is required; advanced degrees (MS, PhD, or MBA) or equivalent experience is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in AI within product development or management roles in a technology firm, or as an analyst or investor in AI.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management capabilities.
- A well-established personal network within the industry, including startups and venture communities.
- Proven experience in leading complex, multi-team, and cross-geographic projects to successful outcomes.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
- Capability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
