POSITION TITLE: Postdoctoral Researcher: DARE-KY

DEPARTMENT: College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources
REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator, DARE-KY
CLASSIFICATION: Staff - 12 months
STANDARD WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This role involves conducting advanced research in the field of soilless agriculture, concentrating on nutrient management, microbial interactions, and the assembly of endemic microbial communities. The successful candidate will engage in innovative experiments utilizing state-of-the-art molecular and omics technologies, analyze findings through bioinformatics, publish scholarly articles, and manage laboratory equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Execute laboratory experiments employing molecular and omics methodologies.
  • Analyze research data utilizing bioinformatics tools.
  • Instruct students in laboratory practices.
  • Ensure the maintenance of laboratory equipment and adherence to safety standards.
  • Collaborate with partners on experimental design and execution.
  • Prepare presentations and scholarly publications.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining soilless agricultural systems.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing capabilities for scientific documentation.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and reliable.
SUPERVISORY ROLE:
Oversee student researchers under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform related duties as necessary.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
  • Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience with molecular and omics technologies.
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics for data interpretation.
  • Capability to conduct independent research and publish findings.
  • Prior experience with laboratory instrumentation is advantageous.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work primarily conducted in laboratory and field settings, including exposure to elevated temperatures and the necessity to lift heavy materials for aquaponics tasks.
