JOB OVERVIEW:
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will play a pivotal role in supporting the Principal Investigator, staff, and students in conducting research focused on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems within the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. The selected candidate will engage in various research initiatives related to Urban Agriculture, contributing to both academic and practical advancements in the field.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and team members to design and implement agricultural research activities, mentoring and guiding undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Conduct both collaborative and independent research aimed at enhancing the production efficiency and economic viability of sustainable agriculture.
  • Manage laboratory and agricultural facilities with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Maintain accurate records and data in a structured format.
  • Oversee the application process for prospective graduate students and monitor their academic progress.
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students in utilizing research tools and equipment effectively.
  • Perform field and laboratory experiments addressing critical agricultural challenges, including yield enhancement and climate resilience for small fruits and vegetables.
  • Work alongside faculty, fellow researchers, and industry stakeholders to translate research findings into actionable solutions for agricultural issues.
  • Analyze and interpret research data, prepare scholarly publications, and present findings at academic conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of grant proposals to secure funding for ongoing and future research endeavors.
  • Fulfill other related responsibilities as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in Agriculture or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience in community-engaged research and both qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Prior experience in the food sector or related research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong community engagement and research skills.
  • Experience in food safety management or organic agriculture.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • May involve lifting and moving objects exceeding 50 pounds.
  • Work conditions may include exposure to varying weather conditions and physical hazards, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
