JOB OVERVIEW:
The Postdoctoral Research Scientist will play a pivotal role in supporting the Principal Investigator, staff, and students in conducting research focused on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems within the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources. The selected candidate will engage in various research initiatives related to Urban Agriculture and contribute to the overall farm operations. Responsibilities include applying for external funding, mentoring student research endeavors, and producing high-quality peer-reviewed publications in the domains of sustainable and urban agriculture.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and team members to design and implement agricultural research activities, guiding undergraduate and graduate students throughout the process.
  • Conduct both collaborative and independent research aimed at enhancing the productivity and economic viability of sustainable agriculture and food systems.
  • Oversee the management of laboratory and agricultural facilities, ensuring a professional and organized environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and data in a structured format.
  • Monitor applications and track the progress of prospective graduate students.
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students in utilizing research tools and equipment effectively.
  • Execute field and laboratory experiments to address critical agricultural challenges, including yield enhancement, nutrient management, and climate resilience for small fruits and vegetables.
  • Collaborate with academic faculty, fellow researchers, and industry stakeholders to translate research findings into actionable solutions for agricultural issues.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, prepare scientific manuscripts, and present research outcomes at academic conferences and seminars.
  • Contribute to the development of grant proposals to secure funding for ongoing and future research initiatives.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in Agriculture or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in community-engaged research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Prior experience in practical or research settings related to food systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong community engagement and research skills in qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Experience in food safety management and/or organic agriculture.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • May require occasional heavy lifting and physical exertion.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and physical hazards, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
