Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Environmental Inspector to join our team in the construction phase of energy projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing environmental compliance and ensuring that our clients' projects meet all relevant regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct environmental training for construction personnel and ensure that they understand their roles and responsibilities in maintaining environmental compliance.
  • Conduct field inspections, monitoring, and survey work to identify potential environmental issues and ensure that our clients' projects meet all relevant regulations.
  • Interact with agency officials, regulatory agency staff, landowners, contractors, clients, and other project members to ensure that all necessary notifications are made and that our clients' projects are in compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Review and implement project documents, including environmental permits and licenses, and provide direction, support, and critical judgment on environmental compliance issues.
  • Provide technical leadership, support, and direction to field staff, including the coordination of daily schedules and conducting morning construction meetings.
  • Critically assess environmental conditions in the field to evaluate potential environmental impacts from construction and identify potential issues and concerns.
  • Evaluate potential issues and concerns ahead of construction activities and develop strategies to mitigate any potential environmental impacts.
  • Oversee the proper implementation of mitigation measures and ensure that our clients' projects meet all relevant regulations.
  • Conduct environmental sampling, including hydrostatic test water, soil, and other samples, to ensure that our clients' projects meet all relevant regulations.
  • Oversee and verify flagging of wetland boundaries, cultural and biological resources exclusion zones, refueling zones, and other sensitive areas.
  • Inspect and document compliance with a project's environmental requirements by preparing daily written inspection reports that provide up-to-date and consistent written and photo documentation of activities observed in the field.
  • Participate in various construction meetings and provide technical expertise to ensure that our clients' projects meet all relevant regulations.
  • Prepare documentation to support requests for variances from environmental permits and ensure that our clients' projects meet all relevant regulations.
  • Evaluate restoration activities and ensure that our clients' projects meet all relevant regulations.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned or required.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a BS or BA degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience, and a minimum of 6 years of relevant construction experience. They will also have 4+ years of environmental inspection, monitoring, or permitting experience specific to linear and/or other energy infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction, including pipelines, power lines, compressor/pumping stations, gas storage fields, wind farms, solar facilities, and offshore facilities. They will also have strong verbal and written communication skills, strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills, and proficient technical skills, including experience using Microsoft Office programs and digital cameras.

The successful candidate will be able to travel extensively and work 40 to 70+ hours per week in a physically demanding position on temporary assignments. They will also be physically fit and able to walk/hike for up to 10 hours per day on possible uneven, steep, challenging terrain, carry up to 10 pounds of equipment while walking/hiking, and work in all weather conditions.
