Role Overview: Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

This position is pivotal in steering the environmental management and sustainability initiatives at RS Americas, Inc., ensuring alignment with the Group's 2030 ESG objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Environmental Strategy Coordination:
  • Oversee the implementation and upkeep of environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards across all jurisdictions.
  • Manage the environmental management system (including ISO14001) throughout the Americas region.
  • Facilitate the extension of ISO 14001 as necessary.
  • Coordinate internal and external environmental audits and investigations, developing associated action plans.
  • Direct the response to significant environmental incidents and investigations, ensuring proper action and disclosure.
  • Implement the environmental program for RS Americas, Inc. and support operations in achieving their sustainability objectives.
  1. Advancing Sustainability Goals:
  • Lead the strategy and execution of carbon reduction initiatives, including net zero and SBTi targets, waste management, and sustainable transport solutions.
  • Collaborate with facilities and operations teams to achieve site-specific carbon and energy reduction targets.
  • Manage large-scale decarbonization projects, such as transitioning to low carbon HVAC systems or solar energy installations.
  • Support supply chain teams in developing sustainable packaging and transport strategies.
  • Advise on broader sustainability goals related to customer and supplier engagement.
  1. Sustainability Performance Management:
  • Oversee the collection and reporting of environmental data for all sites in the Americas.
  • Coordinate quarterly and annual environmental reporting and assurance processes.
  • Establish robust environmental data management systems in new acquisitions, implementing proactive sustainability programs aligned with Group goals.
  • Engage with corporate stakeholders to communicate progress and future plans regarding environmental initiatives.
  1. Health & Safety Leadership:
  • Ensure compliance with safety legislation and adherence to safety policies across all levels of the organization.
  • Conduct regular inspections to verify the implementation of safety procedures.
  • Develop and maintain risk assessments and safety policies in line with best practices.
  • Facilitate management review forums to assess compliance performance and recommend procedural changes.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to drive performance and coordinate with regional EH&S managers.
  • Implement training initiatives to enhance awareness of compliance requirements among staff.
  • Mentor Environmental, Health & Safety Advisors to build their expertise and confidence.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Proven experience managing environmental, sustainability, and health and safety programs in complex, multi-site organizations.
  • Expertise in implementing management systems and ensuring compliance.
  • Strong background in coordinating environmental and safety reporting.
  • Experience in managing critical environmental incidents.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
  • Advanced communication and influencing abilities.
  • Project management skills related to capital, systems, and personnel.
  • Ability to distill complex technical information into clear communications.
  • Awareness of cultural contexts and adaptability in approach.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability.
  • Strong work ethic and enthusiasm for change.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience in relevant industries such as industrial, distribution, or manufacturing.
  • Formal environmental qualifications, preferably with chartered status.
