The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our workforce. This position focuses on training and preparing personnel regarding health and safety protocols, emphasizing OSHA regulations, hazard identification, workplace evaluations, safety education, and emergency preparedness. The specialist will also engage in training employees on safety standards, monitor workplace conditions, and ensure compliance with established safety procedures.

Reporting to the EHS Manager, the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will lead investigations, identify potential risks, and recommend corrective measures for various workplace safety factors that may influence employee health and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and address health and safety concerns within the workplace.
  • Assess and identify chemical and biological hazards, including air quality, ergonomic issues, and noise levels.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Evaluate proposed changes in processes to identify safety risks and suggest necessary safeguards.
  • Ensure compliance of contractor personnel with MP Materials' safety policies.
  • Assist in the development and updating of Safe Work Instructions (SWIs).
  • Provide guidance and conduct audits to enhance overall safety effectiveness.
  • Coordinate inspections by regulatory bodies and address any identified deficiencies.
  • Lead investigations into accidents and incidents, ensuring thoroughness in findings and corrective actions.
  • Support field activities by performing inspections and training employees and contractors on hazard recognition and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an Environmental Health and Safety role.
  • Certification in OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30.
  • Certified First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer.
  • Strong organizational and motivational capabilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take initiative, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in evaluating industrial processes and proposing effective solutions.
  • Experience in addressing industrial hygiene concerns with management and colleagues.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Act as a secondary contact for OSHA/EPA and local emergency response agencies.
  • Assist in providing medical support to injured employees.
  • Conduct detailed assessments of exposure and analyze operational procedures and materials.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports detailing survey findings and recommendations for hazard mitigation.
  • Stay informed about MP Materials' Safety & Loss Control policies, OSHA regulations, and relevant standards.
  • Collaborate with facility management to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
