Job Summary

The Early Head Start Teacher is a critical role in our organization, responsible for developing and implementing individualized and group educational plans for infants and toddlers. This position requires a strong commitment to promoting social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth in a manner appropriate to the child's stage of development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Educational Plans: Collaborate with a Co-Teacher to create and implement individualized and group lesson plans and educational activities that promote all developmental areas.
  • Facilitate Child Development Activities: Guide and facilitate activities of the children, including daily classroom activities and field trips, to ensure a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Provide Responsive Caregiving: Practice responsive caregiving to promote relational learning and include individualized and small group activities that integrate appropriate routines into a flexible schedule of learning experiences.
  • Communicate with Parents: Plan and conduct conferences and home visits to ensure parents/caregivers are well-informed on their child's progress, routines, activities, and behavior.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate records, both on paper and in designated online systems, and ensure confidentiality regarding children and families.
  • Plan and Conduct Observations: Plan, conduct, and document observations, assessments, and screenings, and maintain a comprehensive and ongoing portfolio assessment for each child.
  • Supervise and Support Staff: Work with Program Aides and Volunteers to develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
  • Ensure Child Safety: Implement active supervision techniques to ensure no child is left alone or unsupervised at any time, and use the playground as an extension of the classroom to ensure a safe environment.
  • Support Child Development: Ensure the physical needs of children are met, assist children in health and personal habits, and create ways to engage parents in the education of their children.
  • Maintain a Safe and Organized Environment: Keep the classroom clean and organized, and ensure the mobilization and documentation of matching-in-kind activities, goods, and services.
Requirements
  • Education: Minimum of an associate degree in child development, early childhood education, or a related degree with early childhood equivalent coursework.
  • Language: Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels.
  • Interpersonal and Organizational Skills: Demonstrated successful interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with great problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Head Start/Early Head Start Program: Demonstrated knowledge of the purpose of the Head Start/Early Head Start program.
  • Ability to Relate Sensitively with Children: Proven ability to relate sensitively with children.
  • Confidentiality: Proven ability to keep all required information strictly confidential.
