Job Overview

Schedule: Monday through Friday

Travel: Local, including field trips, occasional home visits, and required training sessions

Compensation: $24.79-$26.05 per hour, plus a $1,000 sign-on bonus

Employment Status: Regular, Full-time, Non-Exempt

Union: SEIU 1021

Supervises: N/A

We provide essential tools, knowledge, and resources to empower the community, reaching over 11,000 individuals and families each year through various programs, including early childhood education, youth mentorship, employment services, and more.

Program Overview

The Children and Family Services programs encompass Head Start, Early Head Start, State Pre-Kindergarten, Home-Based Services, and Developmental Play Groups, serving over 900 children and their families with comprehensive support.

Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Associate Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality care for infants and toddlers in a nurturing educational environment. This role focuses on promoting the holistic development of children enrolled in the Early Head Start program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nurturing care during daily routines such as meals, toileting, and napping for infants or toddlers.
  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate educational activities.
  • Collaborate with the team to create and execute daily lesson plans.
  • Conduct assessments and maintain ongoing observations of children in assigned groups.
  • Prepare and facilitate parent-teacher conferences as scheduled.
  • Conduct home visits for families in assigned groups as required.
  • Utilize classroom materials to foster an environment conducive to development.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with enrolled families.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy classroom environment in compliance with regulations.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Center Director.

Qualifications

  • Ability to create and implement daily curriculum plans.
  • Strong teamwork skills in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to foster a sense of security and trust in infants and toddlers.
  • A compassionate approach to working with children and families.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English or another Asian language preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and preventive health measures.

Requirements

  • Associate Teacher Permit from the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • 15 units in Early Childhood Education, including core courses and Infant/Toddler Care.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs, lifting 20-30 pounds, and engaging in various movements to care for children.
